Halloumi mad

Whilst recently making dinner with my boyfriend, I randomly stopped mid conversation to ask him if he’s noticed my weird food habits yet? “Funny enough”, he says in a dry sarcastic tone, “yes I have.” Haha. I laugh, but I’m not sure whether this is a good thing or not. Let me explain… This beautiful picture down below is a simple cous cous salad, with peppery leaves, roasted peppers and my new favourite; halloumi cheese.

It tastes like what I call ‘roasted cheese’ in Scotland, but without the bread. I got my first taste from my boyfriend during one of our many many (much loved) trips to Nando’s.

It’s rather strange that I should like halloumi, after all I am usually freaked out by the texture of certain products. Until recent times the only cheese I would eat would be mature cheddar (the white one) , and now I’m eating feta, and mad about halloumi?!

Maybe this is a good thing. Maybe I’m expanding my horizons and opening my mind up to explore new textures and flavours, lol. The weird thing about my food habit, which I mentioned earlier is that when I find something I like to eat, I get frequent cravings for that particular combination, or product and eat it until I’ve had waaaaay too much and I simply can’t eat another bite; for at least three years. Seriously, this is what I mean… for example, my love for chilli con carne has driven me to eat the delicious meal at least four times in this past week. This taste bud has been re-building itself up again over the last few weeks. By the time this week is over I will probably have ate at least another two bowls of chilli too. Thankfully, I’ve gone through this with Chilli before, and we still have a steady relationship.

Food (and drink) that haven’t survived this weird cycle of mine, wine, lasagna, beef olives, mash potato, brussels sprouts, carrots, and the curry from our local curry shop that uses waaay too much salt.

What about you? Have you got any weird food habits, have you tried halloumi, or can you recommend any alternatives healthy lunch ideas like the one above? I’d love to read them. Comment below.
